Leopard Gecko (scientific name- Eublepharis Macularius)

Housing leopard geckos

You can house a Max of one leopard gecko in a 10 gallon tank. Do not house leopard geckos together. It does not matter what sex they are or how old they are they can still fight.

When setting up your geckos tank you should have at least three hides. One on the heat mat, one on the far side of the heat mat, and one in the middle of the tank with damp moss in it for the gecko to shed in.

you will also need a water dish and mealworm/vitamin and calcium dish.

You can use a variety of different plastic plants depending on the theme you choose.

The best thing to use on the bottom of your geckos tank is reptile carpet. You can get a variety of different colors. The most common colors are green and brown. Never use any kind of loose substrate. Loose substrate can lead to compaction and death.

Feeding leopard geckos and caring for their food

Leopard geckos can be fed a large variety of different feeder insects. Here's a list of foods they can eat. Dubia roaches, crickets, mealworms, giant mealworms, and baby hornworms. They can also eat butterworms or wax worms as a treat. But don't feed them too often because they're very fatty.

0 to 6 month old leopard gecko should be fed once a day.

6 to 12 month leopard geckos should be fed every other day. Their diet can consist of 10 to 15 small mealworms, 8 to 13 small crickets, or four to five baby dubia roaches. The higher amount of feeder insects being older geckos and the lower amount being younger geckos. They can also be fed 3 to 4 wax worms or butterworms once a month as a treat.

1 year old and up can be fed 12 to 16 Crickets, 10 to 20 mealworms, 5 to 8 baby dubia roaches, 4 to 7 baby hornworms, or three to five superworms. They also can be fed 5 to 7 wax worms or butterworms as a once a month treat.

It is really important to feed your feeder insects or your geckos won't get enough protein. Your feeder insects will die right away because you're not feeding them. Here is a list of different things you can feed your insects: celery, bananas, mango, cucumber, zucchini, or carrot. You can also buy a complete gut load at your small business pet store, or pet mountain.

I like to keep my feeder insects in 4-5 inches of small pine chip bedding that you can find at your local feed store, and a couple of handfuls of non medicated Organic pelleted goat feed. I have experimented with ALOT of bedding and this works best. Change the bedding out once all of the feed is gone.

Don't feed your gecko food that is fatter then the space between their eyes.

Make sure to dust your feeder insects with a calcium and vitamin mix. I prefer to use T-Rex leopard gecko superfood, and Exo Terra multi-vitamin powder supplement for reptiles and amphibians.

Do not ever feed your geckos human food, dehydrated mealworms or crickets, or deceased feeder insects.
