In Monthly Contest
I feel like this space has been pretty quiet lately, and wanted to see if we could get it back to what it used to be. This contest follows the same rules as the past ones, except for the fact that it includes all pets and pet habitats. No encouraging anyone to like posts, no spam, and each pet can only be entered once for this month's competition. Winner is the one with most likes, and contest closes on the last day of August. With NearMeBetta's permission, the winner will get a July-August Competition badge. Decorating for the season is always appreciated!

Here are some facts about aquarium salt: It helps to prevent disease. One of my most recommended treatments for sick fish is a salt bath. A salt bath for 15 minutes, with one teaspoon of salt for every gallon, can stop ick, flukes, parasites, and help to treat bacterial infections. It promotes healthy gill functions. Aquarium salt contains needed electrolytes to help fish absorb oxygen and expel carbon dioxide. 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons or a half teaspoon per gallon should be used in the main tank. It doesn't evaporate. Be sure not to add more salt after topping off a tank. Only add salt after a water change, or when setting up a new tank. It's dangerous to plants. Be careful adding salt to a planted aquarium, as this could damage, and even kill your plants.

In Bugs and Bug Breeding
I don't exactly love caring for creepy crawlies however I've always respected scorpions. When I decided it would be a good idea to breed scorpions I don't know 😂! But, somehow I ended up with about 30 scorpion babies! I started with a male and female emperor scorpion in a 55 gallon aquarium. My mom didn't approve, but she also didn't say no. My tank was set up with several burrows and caves for the animals to breed. In about a month or two, I saw the famale had a very large girth. It was only another 8 months when the babies were born!! I sold them to my local pet store, and then my mom decided that may be I should try a pet that isn't that creepy!

Have you ever wanted to easily breed a bristlenose place? I have been breeding and caring for bristlenose plecos for years and know one simple truth, breeding bristlenose plecos is one of the easiest freshwater fish to breed! I breed them in tanks with neutral pH, 78 degree water, water parameters zero for ammonia, zero for nitrites, and less than five for nitrates. Make sure you have at least a 20 gallon tank with lots of caves. Sexing the bristlenose plecos is a very simple task also; just look for odd feathery growths on the top of the plecos head. If these bristles develop then you have a male, but if no bristles develop, then you have a female. Now onto the breeding process! The male pleco will claim a cave and clean it out. Then, when the female fish deems the cave worthy, the female will deposit the eggs in the cave. For the next few weeks, the male will fan the eggs and keep them aerated, so no worries about egg fungus! After the eggs hatch, that's when to move on to the next step; raising the fry! When the eggs have hatched, move the fry their own tank. While the fry still have their yolk sac, make sure not to feed them. After a couple of days, you can feed the fry repashy powder food and after a couple more days they can eat frozen veggies like green beans or zucchini. Make sure the veggies are cut in a way so they can get to the flesh of the veggies. After the fry are raised into juveniles, you can put them in your own tank, or sell them for profit. Thank you for reading my article! I hope you like it!

In Aquatic Plants & Algae
Common Name: Jungle Val, Eelgrass, Tape Grass Scientific Name: Vallisneria Americana For beginners? In my experience, yes, jungle Val is a very undemanding plant Size: In the wild, up to six feet tall! In aquariums this plant will easily reach the top of the tank Tank size: This plant will easily outgrow smaller tanks, so it is suggested a tank size of at least 20 gallons Care: This plant will do good with extra root tabs and fertilizer, as it feeds off the water column and from its roots, however it grows so rapidly that this is not required. I keep mine in tanks with neutral ph, 78 degrees. If you keep them with other fish, then it will not require carbon dioxide injections as the plant is already a very quick growing plant. Propogation: Jungle Val grows from runners that will take root in your aquarium. Conclusion: Jungle Vallisneria is a wonderful background plant for large planted tank and look amazing with fish like neon tetras. If you give it a big enough tank, it can grow massive!

In Livebearers and Breeding Them
Mollies are one of the most increasingly popular live bearer and it is very simple to take care of. I recommend at least a 20 gallon, and make sure you have extra tanks for when they start breeding if you aren't planning on selling all of them. They appreciate hard water or water with salt added, to create a brackish environment. They will eat about anything, but they need to be watched closely to make sure they are all getting enough to eat. Determining the gender of the mollies is relatively simple, just check if the bottom fin by the anus is triangular shaped. If it is, then it is a female fish. I add crushed coral into my tanks to make the water harder and I personally don't feel like these fish need to live in a planted aquarium, however the fry benefit from a fast growing plant like guppy grass or hornwort. In mollies, watch the fry for spinal deformities or other life altering genetic problems. If the fish has a deformity, euthanize the affected fish. When getting your mollies, only select healthy fish from a reputable breeder. When quarantining, treating the fish with a broad spectrum medication like general cure is beneficial. Hope you like my Molly care guide!!
